Running With Boobs

NEW MAMA TIP OF THE DAY:

If breastfeeding, nurse your little babe before going for a run. Trying to run when your boobies are full of milk is very uncomfortable and next to impossible. Make sure to purchase a VERY supportive sports bra. Happy running!

I had big plans of going for a nice 3 mile run with Juliet in the BOB stroller this morning, but it’s raining. We won’t be running outside today and I…

Gotta blame it on something

Blame it on the rain

Whatever you do don’t put the blame on you

Blame it on the rain

Yeah yeah

BUT, I’m not going to let a little rain totally soak my workout plans. I will just have to workout inside today, when Juliet is taking her nap. I found a few great apps for exercising at home. One that I just bought and really like is called Daily Workouts…it provides great 10 to 30 minute workouts that you can do in your own home. Juliet is crying…gotta run.

Guess who’s back, guess who’s back, guess who’s back…

I’m baaaaack! Juliet Rose is 8 weeks old today and I’ve gotten the okay from my doctor…it’s OFFICIALLY time for me to start working out again!

Workout of the day

4 mile walk with Juliet and Fudge

Tip of the day

When putting your BOB stroller in the back of your car/SUV make sure to lay it flat, not on its side, so that the stroller doesn’t open up and squish your dog. This happened to me. Fudge is now scared to get in the way back of the car. I know, Fudge is kinda a wimp, but to avoid this situation…just lay your stroller flat.

I’m 35 weeks pregnant today!

Baby McPeck’s hearing is fully developed at this point and she can recognize songs. I read that if you start singing to them now they will find the songs soothing after birth. Pretty awesome.

I’m def not the best singer you will meet. Actually, I’m pretty horrible. I might even be tone deaf. So, I’m not really sure how soothing my singing voice is, but I am trying my best. And, I think she appreciates my efforts.

She seems to enjoy KISS FM and our dance parties in the car…one song in particular that ALWAYS gets her moving is LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem! No joke. It’s cute.

A Marathon Pregnancy

This is old news, but I’ve been meaning to blog about it. I know, I have been totally slacking in the blogging department. I apologize.

So, did you guys hear about the pregnant lady who ran the Chicago Marathon and then delivered a healthy baby girl 7 hours later?? Yep, on October 9th, 27 year old, Amber Miller, ran the Chicago Marathon. She was 38 weeks and 5 days pregnant. She finished the race in 6 hours and 25 minutes. And, 7 hours later she delivered a healthy baby girl…weighing 7 pounds, 13 ounces. Craziness. I guess she had signed up for the marathon before she knew she was pregnant, and as the marathon approached she felt like she could handle running it. Her doctor gave her permission to run half and walk half. This was her 8th marathon, and the second one she has run while pregnant.

Is this normal? NO, not at all! Can it be done? Yes. Amber Miller did it. Would I ever run a marathon while pregnant? No. Any extreme physical activity while pregnant is risky. Why take the risk? But, a moderate amount of exercise is important for pregnant ladies.

Some benefits of a moderate amount of exercise throughout pregnancy:

  • builds stamina
  • prepares and strengthens muscles and body for labor
  • running while pregnant reduces constipation
  • reduces anxiety and stress related to pregnancy
  • prevents gestational diabetes
  • less lower back pain
  • less swelling
  • less development of varicose veins
  • quick recovery after labor
  • sleep better
  • prevents excessive weight gain
  • gives you a healthy glow
  • promotes well being :)

TIP OF THE DAY:

DON’T run a marathon while pregnant, but DO stay active.

7 weeks to go!

33 weeks pregnant and baby McPeck is now the size of a honeydew!

At 33 weeks an average fetus weighs about 4.2 to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. Our doctor thinks that baby McPeck will weigh about 7.5 pounds when she is born…we will see.

At 33 weeks your baby is…

  • keeping eyes open while awake
  • coordinating breathing with swallowing and sucking
  • bones are hardening
  • going through major brain development

At 33 weeks you might be feeling…

  • HOT (you are!)
  • headaches due to dehydration and/or stress
  • shortness of breath
  • pregnancy brain

Tip of the day:

Eat some honeydew! Why? Because the honeydew melon is considered the sweetest of all the melons. Honeydew melon is low in sodium, very low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and a VERY good source of vitamin C.

Marathon Fever!

The last marathon I ran was in March 2010 and I’m now feeling the itch to start training for another one. But, I am 7 1/2 months pregnant, so starting to train for a marathon right now would be pretty silly. I will happily wait to start my training till after the baby arrives. And, I am thinking that it might be smart to start with a half marathon. There are tons of half marathons to choose from in the spring. I am leaning towards running the Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. We (Matt and I) have never been to Portland and have been wanting to go…we can make a family vacation out of it. And, one of my best girlfriends from college just moved to Portland with her cute family, so we would get to see them too. I am going to try to convince Cherie (my gf that now lives in Portland) to run it with me. Maybe I will even run with baby McPeck in the BOB jogger??

Tip of the day:

Train to run a race! Whether it be a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or full marathon…you can do it!

Some half marathon training tips…

  • register for a half marathon
  • give yourself plenty of time to train for a half marathon (12 to 14 weeks)
  • less is more when you are first getting started
  • train with a running group or a friend
  • be consistent with your training
  • remember that you will have good training days and not-so-good training days
  • listen to your body
  • long runs are an opportunity to practice for race day
  • don’t try anything new on race day
  • pace yourself on race day
